GVS Thanks City Council
Board Resolution Thanks City Council, Encourages Appointment
Cheryl Hacker (chacker@columbus.rr.com), Chair of the Historic Preservation Committee, provided background about the recent passage of the 2010 budget by City Council which includes funding for one professional staff person within the City’s Historic Preservation Office.
This is terrific news since the GVS and the German Village Commission and other historic neighborhood groups have been advocating for this staff position to be filled for some time.
The long term relationship that the GVS and other historic preservation groups have nurtured with Council members and their staffs was influential in getting the funds into the budget for this historic preservation staff support, Cheryl noted.
Even though the funds are in the budget, this does not assure that this city staff person will attend GV Commission meetings which is very significant for the German Village Commissions’ work. The GVS and the German Village Commission will continue to work to ensure that the German Village Commission will get the support it needs from the City’s Historic Preservation Office, Cheryl said.
Cheryl also noted that President Darci Congrove sent an informal thank you to Councilwoman Priscilla Tyson right after this budget was passed and a formal letter of appreciation is being sent along with the GVS Board resolution to Columbus City Council.
