July 8, 2010
Jody Graichen, Editor
Our kick-off to Tour weekend began with with a very successful book signing for the Society’s Director of Historic Preservation Programs first publication,
Remembering German Village ~ Columbus, Ohio’s Historic Treasure. The party was very generously hosted by Bill Lager in his new Mohawk Street home and planned by the Society’s 50th Anniversary Committee chaired by Sarah Irvin Clark, Kelly Clark, Bill Mains and Brian Smith. Invitations for the party sold out quickly, and in typical German Village fashion, revelers went all out to make the event special. Many thanks and happy reading to all who attended, and kudos to Bill Lager for stepping in to save the day with a last-minute change of venue!

Baseball Game this Saturday in Schiller Park!
Ohio Village Muffins vs. the Bakery Gingham Cupcakes – Saturday, July 10 at 3:30 p.m., Schiller Park. That’s right – the German Village 50th anniversary committee secured a title sponsor that is oh so fitting when it comes to playing a team called the Muffins. Everyone knows that cupcakes beat muffins any day! Anyway, we’re still looking for some additional baseball players to fill out the roster. If you’re interested in playing, please email one of our “coaches” – Kelly Clark (Kclark@playnetwork.com) or Ron Solove (RSolove@aol.com). Plan on being there from 3 pm to 5 pm to review rules and play ball! ALL ARE WELCOME to come and cheer on the Cupcakes to victory!
Art Crawl Call for Volunteers
“Calling all Art Crawl Volunteers! Volunteer to set up, take tickets, play host, bartend, and tear down during this year’s ART CRAWL 2010. We especially need help tearing down this year! Visit www.germanvillagebusinesses.com to download a volunteer application and get involved in this fun, community event.”
Plans are well underway for an evening of art and fun on Saturday, July 24, 2010. We will close Macon Alley between Frankfort and Whittier from 6:00pm to 10:00 pm for an event featuring artists from the German Village Art League.
We need volunteers to implement our plans for the event. Volunteer for a shift and receive free admission. Please review the Volunteer Descriptions, complete and return the form below. You will receive a confirmation by e-mail (or snail mail if you choose) detailing your volunteer duty and check in location.
We look forward to a great evening and hope you will join us.
Set-Up Team
This involves some physical work. You’ll be setting up tables, chairs and maybe some small pop-up tents along the alley, as well as putting out trash containers, and other things that might come up that day.
Tear-Down Team
And yes, all that has to come down and be put away after the event closes at 10:00pm. So, you night owls that don’t mind a little heavy lifting will be much appreciated on this team.
Ticket Takers
Sell event tickets, drink tickets and provide directions for guests. There will be a ticket table at each cross street.
Bartenders
If pouring beer, wine and soft drinks is your idea of a good time, this is the volunteer team for you.
Security and Artist Hospitality
We need volunteers who will relieve artists in the garages, so they can take a break to go to the bathroom, get food, look at other art, etc. The volunteer will stay in the garage, greet people, keep an eye on the art, etc. while the artist is out.
THANKS,
Bonnie Mitchell – Volunteer Chair
Betty Garrett & Sherry Mullett – Co-Chairs – The German Village Art Crawl Committee
I would love to join in the fun of Art Crawl!

MORPC Travel Services Survey
A request to participate in a survey from MORPC (Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission)…
I would like to encourage you to participate in a project that could assist you and your members with their commuting travel. Would you distribute a web-based survey to them that will help better understand the travel experience and attitudes of central Ohio residents and commuters so that new travel services can be developed. The survey will take about 8 – 12 minutes to complete. All answers are confidential and will only be analyzed in aggregate form.
We would greatly appreciate if you could pass this survey along to your members. The deadline for the survey is Sunday, July 18 and the website for the survey is http://tdm.questionpro.com. If you have any questions regarding this survey, please contact Chris Porter: cporter@camsys.com or Robert Lawler (MORPC; rlawler@morpc.org)
About the project: The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) has a ridesharing program called “RideSolutions” which helps commuters find other travel options to work besides driving alone in their cars (www.ridesolutions.morpc.org). These options range from car- and vanpooling, to transit, to biking. RideSolutions staff is currently working closely with large employers and their employees as well as others in the region. MORPC is assessing its RideSolutions and other Transportation Demand Management (TDM) programs in the Columbus region which are aimed at increasing traveler services in the region and reducing the number of people who commute alone. One of the goals of this project is to identify the needs of local businesses and assisting them in offering a variety of transportation services to their employees.
I greatly appreciate your consideration.
Best regards,
Brenda Noe
Senior Administrative Assistant
Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission
