7:15pm
The Schiller Monument, a stunning eleven foot bronze statue, was given to the city of Columbus by early German settlers and dedicated in 1891. The “Patron of the Park” is receiving a new garden and lights. The 7:15pm program in Schiller Park is open to the public and will include a concert featuring the Harmony Project community chorus singing “Joyful, Joyful, ” a reciting of Schiller’s “Ode to Joy” by John Kuhn, director of Actors’ Theatre of Columbus, the illumination of the statue (goose bumps guaranteed), and the playing of the final movement of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony over a glockenspiel installed in the St. Mary Church bell tower for the celebration weekend.
