As a 501C-3, non-profit organization dedicated to historic preservation with an unfaltering commitment to educate residents, visitors, city and state officials to value, protect, and enhance our community, we rely on members and others of good will for significant financial support. 

In fact, almost one-third of the 2010 German Village Society budget is expected to come from membership dollars. 

Everyone wholeheartedly supports the array of activities the GVS does “For the Good of the Neighborhood”.  No questions, no doubts. 

There is strong consensus, though, that more of those who benefit should financially support the countless daily tasks and efforts that serve our community and that have helped shape German Village for 50 years and, we hope, will do so for the next 50 as well. 

Think $5.00 per week.  For less than $5.00 each week you can be a Patron level member ($250/year) of the German Village Society. 

We hope you will think about this when it is time to renew your membership or time for you to join the organization that supports, educates and advocates on behalf of our historic neighborhood and our beloved community. 

We hope you will consider this $5.00 investment each week when you are so glad the GVS is here for you and your friends and neighbors, for school children, for local and international visitors, for people who grew up here, and for those who live here and those who love what German Village represents.

When you attend an event at the Meting Haus, when you call with a question or to report a lost or found pet, or stop in to chat or have a cup of coffee, when you see the beautiful parks so lovingly cared for, when you are represented in discussions about brick street repair or the future of the 70/71 split, think:    $5.00/week. 

In addition to the many activities and accomplishments that the German Village Society proudly does “For the Good of the Neighborhood”, there are noteworthy direct member benefits as well. 

For example:  20 percent discount on all events, products and services (such as copies of historic files, and Meeting Haus space rentals), as well as assistance with package delivery and other special needs. 

For members at the $125 level and above, two complimentary tickets to June’s Haus & Garten Tour are included as well.

Starting in 2010 there will be a distinction between members and non-members in the services and products the GVS offers. 

In other words, you will need to be a GVS member (at the level you feel you can afford to help maintain our services) to receive certain benefits or services.  A list of member benefits, as well as opportunities to get connected in German Village can be found at www.germanvillage.com. 

If you haven’t renewed your membership already you will receive an email with details.  Non-members within the German Village boundaries will receive a letter with an invitation to join and membership information.

Website Update!

Just this past weekend, the www.germanvillage.com website folks were hard at work upgrading the online membership sign up/renewal form.  The new components will enhance the capabilities of the German Village Society to engage the community as they ease through the sign-up steps.  No one has to login any more to update their personal info – all of it is collected up front when they join.  Hopefully, new members will agree that it is a streamlined process to join the Society! 

A major addition is that members may now have more than one username and password per household – i.e. up to two different usernames/passwords can be created for each membership in the Society!!

You may also note that member’s personal bio info will no longer be within their GVS member page – that info will be coming soon by way of a social forum.  This is an exciting new addition we are looking forward to….wouldn’t it be neat if members were able to communicate via the website?  How about starting a GVS rent/borrow/buy forum, i.e. a mini-craigslist?  The possibilities are endless and we are eager to tackle this new phase in the coming months.  Thoughts, ideas, let us hear ‘em – comment below

Back to the Garden, a musical journey through the Woodstock Festival.  Come experience the story of Woodstock the wat it was meant to be – outdoors! The Shadowbox hit musical “Back to the Garden” is playing in the park! Come experience the great songs of the ’60s along with the backstage drama of the biggest concert in history.  This version of the show is family-friendly so don’t be afraid to bring the kids!

This past weekend featured the talents of the German Village Society Cupcakes versus the Ohio Village Muffins as the two rivals duked it out in ole school fashion at Schiller Park.  The baseball game was quite a sight and fortunately some of our neighbors were able to catch the moments for all to enjoy. 

A fabulous time was had by all! Unfortunately, our mighty cupcakes did not prevail, but they made a good run against a team that plays 40 games a year together……

The Tree Brochure is the second educational publication in a series of themed topic brochures geared to help the residents of the German Village community.  The German Village Society’s Streetscape Committee feels it can best serve the neighborhood by researching and compiling important advocacy efforts focused at specific topics and publishing them in easily understandable and obtainable (download it here for FREE) formats.

So go on! Take a look at the brochure, you might be surprised to find out that you the City of Columbus can get you a tree for FREE – yep thats right!   We’d love to hear your feedback on the brochure – give us constructive criticisms, accolades, etc by simply clicking below.
