2010 Event Schedule
JANUARY –
Sharing Our Roots Exhibit
Please join us as we launch a year-long 50th anniversary jubilee with an exhibit of historic documents, photographs and artifacts – Sunday, January 10th, in the Brent Warner Fest Hall. Doors will be open from 2 until 5 p.m., with a brief program scheduled at 2:30. And beverages (of course!) will be served. The exhibit will be open to the public from January 11th through the 17th.
The exhibit, “It is by Sharing our Roots that they Become Stronger”, will be similar to the one that was displayed at this year’s Oktoberfest, at the state fairgrounds. GVS Office Coordinator Russ Arledge is planning the event, using many photos and documents from the Columbus Historical Society. Arledge says visitors should expect a museum-quality exhibit. And GVS Board Member Jerry Glick promises a few surprises. According to Jerry, “There will be things from our archives that probably no one has seen before.” Volunteers will be needed to act as docents. If you’d like to help, please call the Meeting Haus at 614-221-8888.

JUNE – Haus und Garten Tour
Yes, last year’s tour was billed as the 50th, meaning that the event is even older than the Society! Be with us on the last Sunday in June (and for Pre-Tour) as we put a golden anniversary spin on the neighborhood’s most cherished event!
JULY – Art Crawl & Historic Gardens
This month, the German Village Garten Club will present a tour of historic neighborhood gardens. The very special, one-time event will be held in conjunction with Art Crawl, presented again by the German Village Art League. Be there for both!
AUGUST – Guided Tours
Have you ever toured – really toured – your own neighborhood? Every Saturday and Sunday in August, our volunteer tour guides will treat residents to free tours of German Village. Hear for yourself the wonderful, insightful stories that our visitors take home to all corners of the globe.
SEPTEMBER – Oktoberfest!
Our biggest party has moved to the state fairgrounds. And it has a whole new look, thanks to our friends at Schmidt’s. This year, we’ll help make it an Oktoberfest to remember. Mark your calendars for September 24th through the 26th. And watch Neighbors 4 Neighbors for details, as the big event draws near!
OCTOBER – Monster Bash & Ghost Tours
This month, we’ll celebrate our neighborhood’s ghostly past. We’re making plans now for German Village ghost tours, and for a special 50th anniversary tie-in to our popular Monster Bash. Watch for details!
NOVEMBER – Bar Shuffle
We’re still working out the details, but this should be a good one – the first-ever German Village Bar Shuffle. Pay one low price for the privilege of toasting the Village in several of our favorite neighborhood watering holes! Your ticket is good for drinks and transportation. No cabs needed!
DECEMBER – Tree Lighting & Village Lights
Kick off the holiday season with friends and neighbors, singing and shopping, and a whole lot more – all with a nod toward the people and events that led to the formation of the German Village Society, 50 years ago. Look for special, anniversary tie-ins at both events, and at local shops and restaurants throughout the month!
