Long-Range Planning
Long-Range Planning Committee
Long-Range Planning is a standing committee of the board, recognizing the important role this committee plays in serving as a neighborhood “think tank.”
The committee’s charter is to recognize needs, identify trends and develop strategies to maintain the vibrancy and special appeal of our neighborhood — or as we like to say, to keep the edge sharp. Our work centers around identifying and prioritizing long-term enhancement issues and projects and recommending strategic initiatives to the board of trustees.
The basis for our work lies in the Vision for German Village 2017, developed by the board in close collaboration with our committee in 2008:
Vision for German Village 2017
German Village will be a celebrated, vibrant downtown neighborhood
with historic integrity and a charming, pedestrian-friendly streetscape.
The Role of the German Village Society
The German Village Society plays a vital role in helping our neighborhood achieve
this vision by providing:
- • Civic advocacy and education
- • Community engagement
- • A neighborhood hub
- • Support for the historic preservation and architectural review process
- Resources and leadership
Most recently, the committee spawned three new initiatives that are vital to the continued vibrancy of our neighborhood: the Streetscape Committee (Brian Santin, chair), Go Grun (Crystal Seamon, chair) and the Community Farm (Elspeth Willoughby, chair).
A key focus for Long-Range Planning in 2010 is to identify the optimal mix of businesses and residences in our neighborhood. We will look at where we are now and where we want to be, and develop strategies to achieve the ideal mix. The committee will also explore one to two additional high-impact focus areas for 2010/2011.
We have much exciting work ahead of us — please join us as we uncover new opportunities to keep German Village the special place it is.
