German Village is showing its age and we are absolutely better for the wear! In January of 2010 the Society will celebrate its 50th Anniversary ~ fifty years of working on behalf of residents, of promoting the restoration of our historic architecture, and of fostering a sense of community like no other in Columbus. As a resident, member of the elected board of trustees, and long-time Society activist, I am proud of the Society’s achievements and look forward to the road ahead.

Fifty years ago I don’t know that anyone anticipated all that our German Village Society could and would become. Thanks to the earnest leadership of our founder Frank Fetch, an earlier generation of Society members and trustees gave us a solid foundation upon which to build a civic association dedicated to retaining the character and distinction of the past while creating a thriving contemporary community in Columbus’ South End. I am confident they would be proud of our efforts and accomplishments.

2010 promises to be an unforgettable golden anniversary year. We have a laundry list of ways we plan to celebrate turning fifty, and I hope you will be on board for each and every one. The Society’s first fifty years have been incredible, but I have no doubt that the best is yet to come!

Warm regards,
Darci Congrove, President
German Village Society Board of Trustees
