Dirty Frank’s has a hot dog for everyone. For the more adventurous there’s the Hot Bollywood, served with spicy mango chutney, or the Soul Dog topped with kimchi, mayo and a sriracha drizzle. For the traditionalist, there’s the old faithful that comes with relish, onions and mustard. Meanwhile, folks full of Ohio pride can opt for the Ohioana, anointed with spicy corn relish. All dogs are served on a steamed poppy seed bun; dog options run the gamut from a bacon-wrapped, all-beef dog to a veggie version. Vegan and gluten-free choices also abound.
Readers of ColumbusUnderground.com have bestowed the Best Cheap Eats honor on our humble hot dog palace three years in a row.
There’s always a line of people queued up outside Dirty Frank’s, waiting patiently for a chance to feast on quirky novelty dogs, tater tots and neon-green lime slushies. Don’t be daunted — this place is teensy, but the staff packs ’em in and moves ’em out with impressive speed. Expect steamed, all-beef dogs served on poppyseed buns with all manner of fun toppings. (Tip: Order your dog charred and they’ll throw it on the grill for a sec.)
Among the best: the Whoa Nellie! comes with pulled beef brisket and a bit of barbecue sauce; while the BLT Dog is a bacon-wrapped hot dog topped with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and mayo.
