Preventive dentistry is the area of dentistry that focuses on those procedures and life practices that help people to prevent the beginning or progression of oral disease. It includes at-home dental care performed by patients, as well as dental care and education by professional dental staff in the office or clinic.

Patient Education

Dr. Munz and her staff believe patient education is important in keeping your mouth healthy. The more you know about oral health, the more confident you are to make decisions on your dental treatment. Dr. Munz and her staff will use intraoral cameras to capture pictures of your mouth and show them to you on a monitor. Dr. Munz will then discuss with you recommendations and options to repair your oral health.
Maintaining ideal oral health is a partnership between German Village Dental Group, you and your smile! Our hygienist will discuss with you proper oral hygiene techniques as well as different options customized for you to keep your mouth healthy.

Regular Check-ups and Cleanings

Depending on your oral health, Dr. Munz and her hygienist will recommend a check-up every 3, 4 or 6 months. During your visit we will exam your entire mouth for any abnormalities(oral cancer screening), examine your teeth and x-rays for any signs of decay and evaluate your gums for gum disease. The hygienist will also gently remove any of the plaque or calculus(tartar) on your teeth that can irritate your gums and lead to periodontal disease.

Nightguards

Bruxism can cause wear, cracks, chips and damage to your teeth. Many patients are unaware of this habit because it often occurs at night. Bruxism involves clenching or grinding your teeth. If left untreated, it can lead to chronic headaches, tooth fracture, and TMJ disorder. If Dr. Munz identifies any signs of bruxism, she may recommend a custom-fit night guard to help alleviate the problem and help protect your mouth from any further damage.
