GVS Community Dialogue: Short Term Rentals (AirBnB, VRBO, etc.) – Trouble or Welcomed Tourism?

  • This event has passed.

The German Village Society Civic Relations Committee is reviewing the legislation that regulates short term rentals, like AirBnB, and would like to provide an opportunity for direct community dialogue during a time when it isn’t so easy to get large groups together.

The current rules are mostly about owners and operators having to buy a city permit, pay taxes on their rental income, and insure the property.  You may review the details here: https://www.columbus.gov/str/

A number of other cities have gone further, i.e. limiting the number of rental nights allowed per year, and/or requiring the rental to be the primary residence (or an adjacent property) of the operator.  The City of Columbus is not going to outlaw short-term rentals, but they do want to protect the quality of life and safety of surrounding neighbors.

This forum will allow you to share your suggestions about how legislation/policy might be rewritten to improve the operation of these businesses in our historic neighborhood.

Space is limited to 20 participants, however, should those 20 slots fill, we will schedule additional forums as needed to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to participate.
