Reading Tutors Needed at Stewart Elementary School

Now that the school has reopened to parents and visitors post-pandemic, GVS is thrilled to be reconnecting with the tutoring program at Stewart School! After meeting with the PTO’s leadership team, Candice M. Maldonado and Rachel Scott, we are looking forward to exploring more ways the GVS community can connect with the Stewart community.

Reading Tutors!

The total need at this time is 11 tutors to match with 11 teachers.

• 7 Primary (PreK-Grade 2)
• 4 Intermediate (Grades 3-5)

Details:

• 1-2 students at a time
• Tutors will either work in the room or in the hallway outside of the room
• Teachers will provide all supplies, materials and activities.
• Typical hour will consist of helping students with sight words using flashcards, students reading books to the tutor, and playing simple games based on academic skill.
• What is needed from Volunteers: Name, Contact Info, and if there is any preference for Primary or Intermediate and we will match with a teacher that will reach out to arrange days and times according to schedules.
• In regard to security, the school office has a system to do security checks upon arrival. Visitors/volunteers will be required to have a Driver’s License/State ID so that the office can scan at check in.
