Thank you to Tour Coordinator Michelle Mazeke & Volunteer Coordinator Bonnie Mitchell

Rachel Lewellen | Communications & Membership Engagement Coordinator

Michelle Mazeke – Since 2016, from spring to late fall, Michelle Mazeke has been busy! All those school group tours, golf cart tours, step-on tour buses, walking tours you’ve seen around the Village or participated in were coordinated by Michelle.

Michelle has been the primary contact for any visitor interested in booking a docent-led or self-guided tour for the past seven years. Thanks to Heidi Drake who approached Michelle about group tours, what a gift you shared with us! GVS is deeply appreciative of Michelle’s commitment to working with visitors and docents to make each tour happen seamlessly. This spring Michelle will be taking a much-deserved break from coordinating the GV Tours, she will be sorely missed!

Highlights during her time in this role: Michelle says she enjoyed meeting new people and sharing how special the neighborhood is. She is also quick to point out that, “The tour guides have been phenomenal and since of all of them are neighbors, their own personal experiences have made it even more special.” She also shared that more than the history of German Village and the Society, it’s the people that make the Village wonderful. We couldn’t agree more, and we are forever grateful to Michelle, she is one of those wonderful people! Thank you for volunteering to share your knowledge and love of German Village with the many, many visitors who toured our historic neighborhood.

Bonnie Mitchell – It was about 22 years ago that Bonnie first volunteered for Haus und Garten Tour, when her friend Mary Ann Metro sought to get her involved. Thank you, MaryAnn!

When Bonnie retired, she had the time, in addition to her enthusiasm and motivation, to really step up to the plate in a way that benefits us all. Since then, Bonnie has been successfully coordinating hundreds of volunteers for our signature events, as well as the Visitor’s Center.

Bonnie is a self-described people person. “My father taught me don’t let people be stranger, talk to everyone.” The Visitor’s Center was a perfect fit for her. She loved helping guests learn about and explore the Village and was always amazed about where people would visit from.

Thanks to Bonnie, thousands of visitors had a friendly and knowledgeable volunteer to greet them when they stepped into the Meeting Haus’ Visitors Center to explore this neighborhood, we call home. Thank you, Bonnie!

Please join us tomorrow at the GVS birthday party to thank & honor Michelle and Bonnie for all their years of generously giving of their time and talents to the German Village Society.
