Information for Obtaining a Residential Parking Permit Provided as a Courtesy from the German Village Society

Are there parking controls?
Oh but of course! Parking is a limited and valuable resource. Current controls are:
•  2-hour parking 10AM to 4PM, Except Area A Permit
•  No Parking 4PM to 10AM, Except Area A Permit
•  2-hour parking 10AM to 8PM, Except Area A Permit
•  2-hour parking 10PM to 2AM, Except Area A Permit

So please watch for the signs when parking and remember the City Parking Enforcement Officials do regularly patrol our Village.

2)    What is an Area A Permit? What do I do if I live in an Area A Permit section of the village?
An Area A Permit is a decal for your automobile obtained from the City that says to the patrol…hey, do not ticket my car I am a resident. The decal shows its expiration date and your license plate number. Plus, it lets you park anywhere in the Village; “No Parking” areas excepted. No, it is not required that you obtain a permit but, you will have to evaluate if you require one. Not every street in German Village has permit parking, so it is up to each resident to evaluate if your address requires one.

Where do I obtain this Area A Permit?
Parking Violations Bureau
400 West Whittier Street
Columbus, Ohio 43215
Phone/614.645.6400

Note: While for the initial permit process, you must go to the City office, after that it is renewable by mail! The City will invoice you early September each year.

Do I need to take anything? Yes, Yes, Yes.
•  Proof of Residence – a rental lease agreement or a real estate contract or current utility bills will do.
•  Current, Valid Vehicle Registration (even if it is out of state) for each auto to be registered.    There is no limit.
•  DON’T TAKE AN INSURANCE CARD OR CAR TITLE…WON’T HELP. Note to Students:
It’s okay to use a current valid vehicle registration in your parent’s name.

Is there a cost for this Area A Permit? YES.
Yes a Full Year membership is October 1 to September 30 and costs $25.00
Checks should be made payable to: Treasurer – City of Columbus
NO CREDIT CARDS – NO DEBIT CARDS – NO CASH

What will I get?
You will be given a decal that goes in the rear window (inside) of your vehicle on the driver’s side plus a hang tag for the rear view mirror for guests or visitors.

What about my guests?
German Village residents who have purchased an Area A Permit, may also obtain one day Temporary Permits for their guests. The first five are free and each additional a $1.00. There is no limit to the number of permits you can obtain or purchase in a year. If you require temporary permits and plan far enough in advance (five days) and you need fewer that five (5) you can call the City (614.645.6400) and they will mail the permits to you. If you really plan in advance, you can mail the City your check if you need more than 5 permits along with your decal number and they will mail the permits to you. Or, if you do not plan in advance at all, go to 400 West Whittier Street (even the day you need it Monday-Friday) to pick up the temporary permit. Remember the temporary permits are only good for one day so if you have out of town guests with vehicles they may require several permits depending on their stay.

What if I change vehicles or license plates?
Remove the decal and take it to the Parking Violations Bureau and they will reissue the decal. The Bureau encourages you to obtain a new decal if you move the decal from one vehicle to the other because crumpled decals are suspect to the patrol.

Important Note to Those Changing from Out of State License Plates …You will need to take in your new Vehicle Registration to obtain a new decal.
